My week.....

So this week has been interesting.  I have been in the math intervention room for the past two days.  It was interesting to see how different teachers taught math and how they used technology.  I was in one class this week that teacher really did a good job of using TPACK.  She used a smart board but it wasn't the center of the lesson like some do.  All she did was open a word document and let students come up and write how they solved a problem on the board.  Students loved this and it seemed really easy to do. As I was standing there watching this I was trying to think of what I would do.  I think that document that they made with all the ways to solve problems would be a good use as a study guide or a hint sheet for students who have a hard time remembering the different ways to solve the problems.

Overall it has been a good week and I can't wait till I can put all my knowledge to work.  I'm getting so many ideas for reading and math I just can't wait to use them.

  1. Megan, it sounds like you had a good experience. I always liked being in an actual classroom because I feel that is where I learned a lot and got a lot of ideas to use in my own classroom. A teacher from one of my student teaching placements used the elmo in a very similar way. It was a constant fixture in her lessons. I never felt that the lessons were focused on the technology. The technology was always used to enhance the lesson or make what she was explaining easier to understand. I can't wait to get my own classroom and start trying out everything I have learned!

  2. I really like how Krystina said technology should be used to enhance the lessons. It sounds like using a smart board for writing how students solved math problems was a little too much work. If it was me, I would have just used to elmo & not worried about opening a document. However, if she wanted to save the student's work and easily come back to it later, I can see why she would use a smart board. I guess it just depends on what you plan on doing in the future and if it's something that you want saved or tossed.

  3. It is nice to be able to enter different classrooms to see what they are doing. Have that TPACK frame will hopefully help you to think about how technology, content and pedagogy work together in these different rooms. I just finished teaching an online course on Interactive Whiteboards -- it is interesting. That technology alone, really makes you think differently on how you teach something in the classroom.
